Awaken Your Intuitive Voice with Vibration - How Sound Helps You Tune Into Inner Guidance

Have you ever had a gut feeling that turned out to be spot on? Or a quiet inner nudge that whispered the exact thing you needed to hear? That’s your intuition—the inner compass we’re all born with.

But in today’s noisy, overstimulated world, our intuitive voice often gets drowned out. The good news? There’s a beautiful and powerful way to reconnect with it: vibration and sound.

As a sound practitioner and voice guide, I’ve found that sound bypasses the analytical mind and drops us right into the body—into presence. And when we’re truly present, that’s when we can hear our inner wisdom more clearly.

The Bridge Between Sound and Intuition

Intuition doesn’t shout. It whispers.
And to hear it, we need to quiet the static—mental chatter, emotional noise, even physical tension. Sound and vibration are incredible tools for doing just that.

When we use our voice intentionally—whether through humming, toning, chanting, or simply exhaling with sound—we activate the vagus nerve, calm the nervous system, and enter a receptive state.

This isn’t just spiritual—it’s biological. Vibrational practices help the body shift into a parasympathetic state, which is where our deeper awareness and inner voice become more accessible.

Your intuitive voice speaks to you in many ways. Here’s some of the methods that I’ve experienced, and I’m sure you have too!

  • Inner voice - this is the “still, small voice” that is somewhat similar to my head babble, but has a different quality, like a nudge. I remember when I was seventeen I had broken up with my boyfriend Tim and felt terrible about hurting him. One evening a few weeks later, I was suddenly overcome with this unexplainable urge to go to the garage where he worked on his car. I drove there and somehow knew that I didn’t want him to see me, so I parked in the lot next door. When I peeked in the window, I saw him in an embrace with another girl and immediately felt relief wash over me - taking away my guilt feelings.

  • Inner knowing - Sometimes there are no thoughts or images - we just know. This  is an amazing feeling that is probably very foreign to most of us. After many years of a long work commute, I applied for a job closer to home. After the interview I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I had the job, even after the director called and told me that he had given the position to someone else. The next day the director called back and offered the job to me because the other person had declined.

  • You actually hear a voice - I did once when I was driving - it said “look right.” Someone ran a red light as I was going through an intersection and I had just enough time to jam on my brakes and avoid what could have been a serious accident.

  • Heart or gut feeling - That sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, or that little flutter in your heart is trying to tell you something. When you meet someone for the first time, don’t you usually get a heart feeling about them? Years ago, after I opened my voice studio, I put an ad in the paper for an accompanist. Out of about 15 applicants that I spoke with on the phone, I had a really good heart feeling about this one guy who is now my husband!

A Simple Practice to Hear Your Inner Voice

Here’s a short and gentle exercise you can try right now. It takes less than 5 minutes and doesn’t require any special tools—just your voice and a little presence.

1. Find a Quiet Space
Sit comfortably. Place one hand over your heart and one on your belly. Take a few slow breaths. Feel the rise and fall of your body.

2. Hum Gently on the Exhale
Take a deep breath in, and hum softly on the exhale. Feel the vibration in your chest, face, or head. Don’t worry about pitch or tone—just let it be natural. Do this 5–7 times.

3. Sit in Silence
After your final hum, sit in stillness. Notice any feelings, images, or thoughts that float to the surface. Don’t chase anything—just observe.

4. Ask a Gentle Question
Silently ask, “What do I need to hear right now?” or “What truth is trying to come through me?” Then simply listen. The answer may come as a sensation, a knowing, a word, or later in the day as an insight.

Sound Reconnects You to YOU

The more you practice using your voice this way, the more natural it becomes to open to and feel your intuition —rather than force or overthink it.

In order to use these practices, you don’t need to be a singer. You don’t even need to be confident with your voice - just willing and curious to explore the amazing being that you are.

Let your voice be a tuning fork to tune you into yourself!
